WOMEN CAR(RY)E IT ALL
Women Car(ry)e It All is a collection inspired by the presence and strength of women from the informal market in the city of Mindelo and Cabo Verde, in general. While gazing at people in the streets, it is noticed that women are always carrying weight on their heads and shoulders. A less attentive eye might just see the amount of products these women are carrying, but in a deeper perspective, they are really carrying for their families. To carry represents the act of care. Being aware of the needs of beloved ones, be ready to lift the world, if needed, in order to keep the boat floating. The hard work, heavy because of the conditions, might be in terms of physical health, of vulnerability and consequent need to respond and be firm due to a harsh environment do not take the femininity and power from this group. The shapes the women draw in the market are strong and maternal. The volumes created by their posture, the aprons and the full pockets, inspire to design Women Car(ry)e It All, a women’s collection - that brought men’s attention - that emphasizes new volumes and the understandment that a feminine silhouette might be deconstructed from the usual, but still have impact and translate strength in beauty.
